2. STRUCTURE
SECTION 01 ALUMINUM KILN STRUCTURE
01.01 KILN STRUCTURE
The kiln structure is fabricated in aluminum AL6060 adapted to support the corrosion occurred from the wood acid released during the drying cycle. All structural columns and beams are specifically designed to provide the strength and stability required.The standard structure is designed to withstand wind gusts till 100 km/h and snow loads up to 120 kg/m2(under request 250 or 400 kg/m2).
All beams are factory assembled,and are bolted to the columns in the field with SOLID 304 stainless steel bolts.No field welding is required. The structure is insulated on the outside so as to guarantee the same expansion and contraction rates throughout the structure.There are no through wall penetrations that can result in leakage of moisture into the insulation system. There are no enclosed profiles that trap water.
01.02 INSULATED HOUSING WALLS
The insulation of the walls, loading door and roof of the kiln is made with a multilayer system composed by two faces of aluminum ribbed sheets and 100mm of fiberglass wool panels.The interior skin of aluminum ribbed sheets is 0,7 mm thick and caulked with a special high temperature silicon caulk-gasket. All joints are vertical, eliminating the possibility of “acid hang” that normally occurs with a horizontal joint panel, causing excessive corrosion. All joints in exterior walls feature a thermal break gasket between theskin and the “Z” girts. The exterior skin is 0.6mm thick aluminum ribbed and corrugated embossed sheet.The channels (ducts) created between the high ribs of the interior and exterior sheet and the insulation allows the movement of air up the wall and allowingthe insulation to dry if it does get wet for some reason.The fiberglass wool panels are 100 mm thick, and they provide a high insulationefficiency with a very low thermal conductivity: 0,036 W m°C = 0,031 Kcal/h m°C.The semi-rigid fiberglass wool insulation will not slide down the wall as horizontal interior aluminum “C” profiles prevent this. The Fiberglass insulation will not absorb moisture and is “inert” with aluminum.
01.03 ALUMINUM LOADING DOOR
The door frame consists of a 2.5mm thick aluminum extruded profile, that is designed with a special track for the 1” diameter “di-tanic” gaskets slide in and out for easy maintenance. The gaskets stay pliable at high temperatures and are not sensitive to acid deterioration and are not UV sensitive. The gaskets provide proper sealing to keep stable conditions inside the kiln. The addition of vertical “I” beams assures a strong assembly. This framing provides a strong framework for the insulated door panels. The loading door feature 100mm of semi rigid compressed “fiberglass” insulation, which is inert with aluminum and thereby eliminates the possibility of a reaction with the aluminum from the inside of the panels.The door is closed hermetically, by the use of multiple mechanical systems, that guarrantee a perfect tightness through the year01.04 DOOR CARRIER A heavy duty, “Hot Dipped” steel door carrier and track way will be provided with a manual “rack and pinion” type crank system to allow safe transportation of the loading door. The door carrier travels across two rails for safe simple operation eliminating the possibility of the carrier falling off the track way: one embedded in the concrete floor and the other fixed of the front beam. The carrier features greaseable the wheeled trolley.
01.05 INSPECTION DOOR
One man door is provided. It is 650mm wide and 1600mm high, and features a “anti-panic” painted steel locking handle for operation from inside the kiln, with a 10mm diameter silicone gasket.The door is for entry into the rear plenum. It is all made in aluminum, including the frame and the door.
